Welcome aboard!
¡Hola! ¿Cómo estás? My name is Álex Alonso, and I am a native Spanish teacher. I am from Gijón, a small coastal city in the north of Spain (not what you see in my photo, taken in Ronda). Honestly, it’s such a beautiful place, and I’m so proud to call it home, simply because the city is lovely! And the food? Oh, it is just incredible! From fabada asturiana to sidra, there is something for everyone. You may want to do a little search to see what I am talking about ;)
Well, we had enough about Gijón (I could carry on, trust me...). But, what about me? Well, my friends would probably say that I am super passionate about traveling, sports, music, and, of course, learning languages! I love exploring new places and meeting people from different cultures. It is one of the things that inspired me to become a Spanish teacher—I get to share my culture and language with people all over the world, which is amazing.
When I am not teaching, you will probably find me watching sports (I’m a big fan of football and motorsports), listening to pop music, or planning my next trip...
Then, if you love languages and sharing your culture, we will definitely get along pretty well!

My background. Education and teaching experience
In 2023, I graduated with a degree in Tourism. This program allowed me to better understand areas like travel planning and cultural heritage management, two fields I am passionate about. While completing my studies, I also worked part-time as a Spanish teacher on an online language-learning platform. I am still working with the platform today, and over the years, I have accumulated over 2000 private lessons with more than 90 students from all around the world. I have also received more than 50 positive reviews, which I take as a testament to my commitment to providing quality lessons. My experience working with different students has been fantastic, although my connection and my love of teaching goes way back. When I was very young, I got a small, but, at the same time, a big present if you look at it in retrospect: a little chalkboard my parents gave me. With that board, I acted as if I was the teacher, while my toys were the students... It is funny how things work out because, 18 years later, I have the incredible luck of connecting with students like you. However, now, instead of toys, I have real, motivated people who allow me to help them in their Spanish learning journey. It feels amazing to see how we grow together, just like I imagined back then, but this time for real. Because of that, after finishing my Tourism degree, in 2024 I decided to specialise in teaching and earned the ELE (Spanish as a Foreign Language) certificate. This qualification gave me both the theory and practice to teach Spanish effectively to non-native speakers. Thanks to this certificate, I was able to start working at a language academy, although on a very part-time basis.
My main teaching principles

PATIENCE & EMPATHY
I strongly believe every student learns at their own pace, and I am here to support you every step of the way. Together, we will break down challenges into manageable steps and celebrate every small win. Having learned English myself and currently studying French and Italian, I understand how difficult and intimidating learning a new language can be. That is why my lessons are designed to be a safe space where mistakes are part of the process and improvement is always within reach.

ADAPTABILITY
Adaptability is a big part of how I teach. I get that everyone learns differently—learning styles, paces, and needs are all unique. That’s why I keep my lessons flexible and all about you. If something does not click, we will adjust it and try a different approach. I will always pay attention to how you are doing, what you need, and what works best for you.
